HS Prannoy breaks into the top 10 in Men’s Singles, Satwik-Chirag achieve career best rankings

Indian shuttler HS Prannoy has been rewarded after a sensational year as he breaks into the top 10 Men’s SIngles BWF Rankings. This is for the first time in four years the Indian veteran shuttler has entered the top 10 rankings and it honestly a very good feeling for the badminton lovers all over the country.

The 30-year-old showed great consistency this season and registered some wins over great players in the process this year hence helping him rise from the 11th rank to 9th rank, breaking into the elite top 10 Men’s Singles ranking.

The last time HS Prannoy was in the top 10 rankings it was back in 2018 and he was ranked 8th in the world as he had a superb 2018 calendar year in terms of performance. The Indian shuttler had a dream year in 2018 and has replicated that this time as well as he also went a step further by making it to his debut World Tour Finals.

HS Prannoy currently is the second best Indian Men’s Singles shuttler as he is right behind seventh placed Lakshya Sen. Although they are very close in the rankings, the points difference is huge.

Next up the most promising duo in Indian badminton, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty continues to inspire and flourish as they go up on the BWF Men’s Doubles rankings once more. The Indian duo picked up a lot of points for their splendid calendar year and now they have jumped two places and are currently ranked 5th in the world. Before this they were seventh in the BWF Men’s Doubles rankings.

It was a great year overall for the Indian duo but a special mention to their French Open triumph which happened a couple of months ago. Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty were in prime form as they defeated Lu Ching Yao and Yang Po Han in the finals of the Men’s Doubles French Open event. It was a clear domination from the Indians as they created history and it was enough for them to gain places in the rankings.

Meanwhile a change of gear is happening in Women’s badminton as Malvika Bansod has overtaken veteran female shuttler Saina Nehwal. The youngster jumped two places from 34 to be placed in 32nd position. She is now only a spot ahead of Nehwal and is currently the second highest ranked Indian female shuttler. This is the best career ranking for Malvika Bansod aswell and she will only aim for the top from here.

PV Sindhu still leads the female shuttlers as she is ranked sixth in the BWF World Rankings.

The young women’s doubles pairing of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri have also worked really hard this year and have been rewarded with a progression in the World Women’s Doubles Rankings. Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Giopichand have jumped two places and now they are 18th in the World Rankings. Overall they have great potential to break into the top 10 aswell in the coming years.
