Para Shuttler Sukant Kadam wins gold at the National Para Badminton Championships, aims for podium finish at the Paris Paralympics

Indian have a lot of talent in para badminton and one such para shuttler is Sukant Kadam who recently won Gold at the National Para Badminton Championships in Bhubaneswar. However, Kadam has no intentions of staying content with this gold medal as he wants to carry this momentum eyeing a podium finish at the Paris Olympics in 2024.

World Number 4 Sukant Kadam won gold in the Uganda International tournament and followed it up with this gold medal at the recently concluded National Para Badminton Championship. So he is in pretty fine form recently and wants to continue that in coming tournaments.

“Gold medal in Uganda was very special to me and then winning the national championship for the first time is a dream for me. It was one of my targets and I am very happy that I have achieved my goal. I hope this winning momentum continues,” Sukant Kadam told ANI after winning gold in the tournament.

Sukant Kadam missed out on the Tokyo Paralympics qualification and now wants to do everything in his power to earn a podium finish in Paris. Kadam defeated Tokyo Paralympian Tarun Dhillon in the finals of the tournament. Kadam currently is looking to keep up this performance at the Asian Games and the World Championships that are scheduled for next year. However his primary goal still remains the Paris Paralympics in 2024 where he wants to finish on the podium.

“My ultimate goal is Paris Paralympics as I had missed out on the Tokyo Games qualification by a small margin and I am going to make sure the same mistake won’t happen again,” the shuttler from Maharastra added.

While he won the gold medal in the men’s singles same was not the case in the men’s doubles. Kadam was defeated in the men’s doubles event at the National Para Badminton Championships. After the loss he highlighted how the level of the tournament was pretty high and players know each other’s game so it get more difficult.

“I feel national championship is a little difficult than international circuits as we know each other’s game anyone can win on a given day. In international events we feel more comfortable,” Kadam concluded.
