NBA analyst Nick Wright has tipped LeBron James as the best player in USA’s star studded Olympic team. The team which is being coached by Steve Kerr, has quality players like Steph Curry, Joe Embiid, Jrue Holiday, Kevin Durant, Anthony Davis, Devin Booker and Anthony Edwards.
USA won all of their five matches before the games and James played a key role in all of them. The veteran scored 25 points against South Sudan and also scored the match-winning three-pointer shot with eight seconds to spare to help his team dodge a big upset.
Furthermore, James finished with 20 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and came up with an all-round performance in USA’s 92-88 win against Germany.
Wright feels even James’ teammates will agree that he is the best player in their roster.
Speaking on What’s Wright? Podcast, Wright said, “I’m not trying to sound unpatriotic. I care more about LeBron James’ legacy than Team USA. And for LeBron’s legacy, this is unbelievable. He’s he best player on the Olympic team… Do you know who doesn’t think Steph Curry’s better than LeBron? Steph Curry. … You know who thinks the best player on that team is LeBron James? Anthony Edwards.”
James, 39, is still going strongly at the top level and Wright doesn’t think there is a better American basketball player than the veteran.
“Seeing the reverence that his teammates have shown towards him this entire process has been a revelation. I think he’s the best player on the team. And I think that in these spots when you are getting a healthy LeBron James, I think even at a shade under 40, 21 years in the league, I don’t think there’s a better American basketball player.”
James is a three-time Olympic medallist, with two Gold and one Bronze medal.
