LA Lakers star Russell Westbrook hasn’t been at his best in the ongoing season of the NBA 2021-22. Earlier, Westbrook was criticized for the turnovers he was conceding and now his shooting abilities have also come under the scanner. Westbrook shot with 2-14 as he led the team down with his poor shooting against Sacramento Kings.
In fact, he could only add eight points in 37 minutes he played as the LA Lakers lost their second consecutive match against Sacramento Kings by 125-116.
“I can’t make a f—ing shot,” a frustrated Westbrook said after the loss.
“The word ‘slump’ isn’t something I lean on,” Westbrook said. “I stay locked into my craft, figure it out. I’m just in a position to try to figure out the best way to play at the moment. It’s as simple as that. “I’ll figure it out, and that’s that. … Figure out ways to just make a f—ing shot. That’s it.”
In fact, Westbrook has been in poor shooting form in the last four matches. Westbrook shooting percentage has been 36.8, 28.6, 16.7, and 14.3 in the previous four games.
However, Westbrook has given away only four turnovers in the last four matches and feels handling the ball is the key for him.
“Taking care of the ball is big for me,” he said. “That’s something I pay attention to. If we are winning, that’s more important.”
On the other hand, LeBron James, who was once again the lone warrior with 34 points for the team, went on to put his weight behind Westbrook.
“Just keep working with him,” James said. “Obviously he’s been putting in work, and you’re going trust the work you put into it so, he’s getting some really good looks, it’s just not going down for him.”
LA Lakers will next face Denver Nuggets on Saturday.
