Los Angeles Lakers were finally able to register their maiden win of the season against Memphis Grizzlies as they won 121-118 at Staples Center on Sunday. After losing their two matches against Golden State Warriors and Phoenix Suns, the Lakers were finally able to get themselves on the board.
The game swung from one pendulum to the other but it was the hosts who had the final laugh. Carmelo Anthony, the Lakers veteran player, was at his best as he scored 28 points and didn’t even miss a single throw in the last quarter. Anthony also went past Melone Moses’ record of the all-time scorer and he is now the ninth leading scorer in the league.
Meanwhile, Ja Morant was absolutely brilliant for the Grizzlies as he scored 40 points and once again impressed with his scoring skills. On the other hand, Anthony Davis scored 22 points whereas LeBron James scored 19 points.
However, there was a worrying sign for the Lakers as James fell down on the floor and looked in a bit of trouble. James had missed 27 matches in the previous season due to an ankle injury. King James provided an update on his injury and revealed that his ankle is a bit sore.
LeBron James said: “The first thing I was thinking to myself is not again. Because obviously, it was almost kind of similar but not the same kind of play. I fall on into my leg and there is nothing you can do about it. I couldn’t get my leg out in time, so. So just wanted to try and take a moment on the floor just you know, hopefully, it wasn’t getting worse. I had an opportunity to tie my shoe again to see if I could continue to go and I was able to continue to go. But it’s a little sore right now.”
Both Lakers and James will hope that there isn’t anything serious with the talisman as he holds the key for the team. Lakers will next take on San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday.
