Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting has expressed optimism that his team can go on to win their maiden IPL title. DC had qualified for the finals in the previous season but could not cross the final hurdle against Mumbai Indians.
The team continued their sublime form in the ongoing season as they won 10 out of the 14 league stage matches to top the points table.
However, they lost the first qualifier against Chennai Super Kings and the Rishabh Pant-led team will aim to bounce back stronger. Delhi has been ticking the right boxes throughout the tournament and they have a potent bowling line-up, which has played a key role in their success.
Furthermore, Ricky Ponting has got the best out of his players and he has guided them on the right path. Ponting has done a fine job for Delhi Capitals and he would want his team to go all the way.
In a video uploaded by DC on social media, Ricky Ponting said: “I’ve been in Delhi for three years. First-year I was here, we finished last. Two years ago, we finished third and last year we finished second. I think we can win the IPL, as simple as that. You know, I might go well on record saying that because that’s what I am here for. That’s what the players are here for.”
Delhi’s chief coach feels it will be imperative to come up with a collective effort against KKR. Ponting added that all 11 players should contribute to the team’s success. Delhi has lost their last two matches and they will look to get back the impetus.
“This is a different Delhi than it was two years ago. And the reason that it is, is because what all you guys have brought to this franchise. We adhere to those four words we have said – Attitude, Effort, Commitment, and Care will be better.”
“Every great team I’ve been around, that I’ve coached or I’ve played in have shown genuine care for one another. The sign of a great team is not about one or two players, it’s about the eleven players on the field, and they all chip in to do what they need to when the team needs them to do it the most.”
DC will play KKR in the second qualifier at Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.
