Former Indian veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh is glad to note that KL Rahul has hit the right notes since his comeback to the team. Rahul scored a fine knock of 111 runs off just 106 balls against arch-rivals Pakistan and added 233 runs with Virat Kohli to help India post 356 runs on the board on Monday.
The right-hander continued his good form as he scored another decent knock of 39 runs against Sri Lanka on a challenging pitch and looked comfortable at the crease on Tuesday. Rahul added a crucial alliance of 63 runs with Ishan Kishan, who scored 33 runs and thus the duo played a key role in helping India get close to the 200-run mark.
KL has looked in imperious touch since his comeback and he has ticked the right boxes, not only in front of the wickets but also behind them.
Harbhajan Singh said on his YouTube channel: “Ishan Kishan’s partnership with KL Rahul was crucial. I hope I don’t jinx it, but KL Rahul is playing really really well. I hope he does not get injured or something. He is scoring runs in a sublime fashion and it did not look like he was playing on the same pitch as the other batters.”
On the other hand, the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma scored a crucial knock of 53 runs as he was able to hit the ground running. Rohit completed his 51st ODI fifty but he was done by a grubber from Dinuth Wellalage. The Turbanator also showered praise on the veteran for his fine knock on a sluggish wicket.
“Rohit Sharma played brilliantly on a sluggish surface and looks in excellent touch ahead of the 2023 ODI World Cup. He played well against Pakistan and now against Sri Lanka as well.”
India will next take on Bangladesh on Friday, which will be a dead rubber contest. Team India will face either Pakistan or Sri Lanka in the summit clash of the Asia Cup on Sunday at the same venue of R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo.
