The All India senior selection committee has announced the ODI and T20I squad for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka.
Players like K Gowtham, Chetan Sakariya, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Nitish Rana and Devdutt Padikkal have received their maiden call-up.
Furthermore, Ishan Porel, Sandeep Warrier, Arshdeep Singh, Sai Kishore, Simarjeet Singh have been selected as net bowlers. Shikhar Dhawan has been named as the captain of the team whereas Bhuvneshwar Kumar will take up the deputy’s role.
However, there is no update on Rahul Dravid coaching the Indian team on the tour of Sri Lanka. It is reported that Dravid will be the team’s coach for the tour of Sri Lanka.
Meanwhile, Chetan Sakariya, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Nitish Rana and Devdutt Padikkal have performed well in the Indian Premier League and they have deservingly got their national call-up. Furthermore, they have performed consistently in the domestic circuit, which helped them break into the IPL.
All the matches will be played at R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium, Colombo. The ODI series will begin from 13th July whereas the T20I series will kickstart from 21st July. There will be three ODIs and as many T20Is between the two teams.
This is a completely different team, which goes to show India’s bench strength. India’s main team is on the tour of England, where they will play the World Test Championship final and five Test matches against the hosts.
