“Bowling from Australia to India is completely different” MI all-rounder Cameron Green admits that bowling in different venues at the IPL is a major challenge

Life has not been easy for Australian allrounder Cameron Green ever since he was picked up for a hefty price by the Mumbai Indians. He has been off to a slow start just like his team. MI are winless after their first two matches in the Indian Premier League 2023. But both Green and MI will look to bounce back as it is a long season and there’s plenty to improve moving forward.

Green was bought for ₹17.50 crore at the mini-auction last year by the Mumbai Indians as they believed in his all-round abilities. Till now he has scored 17 runs and picked up a solitary wicket.

MI have also lost their first two matches against Royal Challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings. They along with Delhi Capitals are the only team who are yet to register a win this season.

Ahead of the clash against DC at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Green shared that he is completely fine batting at number three. He highlighted how the pattern of batting is pretty similar to opening the innings.

“I’m absolutely happy to bat wherever the coach wants me to. I am absolutely happy to bat at three – you actually feel like an opener anyway. You have the same intent than probably when opening the bat and when coming at no. 3. So absolutely no stress with batting wherever,” Green highlighted.

However Green has seen the most success when he has opened the batting in T20 cricket. He even scored a fiery half-century against India on his T20 debut against India at Mohali in September 2022. There also he opened the batting for Australia alongside Aaron Finch.

Even in his bowling, Green has only scalped a single wicket for MI this season.

He highlights the conditions are different from that of Australia and hence understands that he is sometimes going for runs. But he feels that it is very difficult to adjust as most grounds are different in nature and even the dimensions are different so the same strategy does not work everywhere, making him very difficult to adjust.

“Bowling from Australia to India is completely different, you are playing on different wickets. The boundaries are different, the ball does different things off the wicket. So trying to learn things over here.”

He will look to start scoring runs from the DC clash and once he gets going he will gain confidence in himself which he is lacking at the moment. It is a long season and he will get his shot at redemption.
