India’s veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has showered praise on gun fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah. Ashwin tipped Bumrah as the crowned jewel of Indian cricket. Bumrah has been India’s best pacer in the last few years and deserves a lot of credit for the team’s success all over the world.
The fast bowler completed 400 International wickets in the opening Test match against Bangladesh at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. Bumrah bagged four wickets in the first innings and played a key role in skittling out the Tigers at 149 after India posted 376 runs on the board.
While Bumrah returned with figures of 4-50 in the first essay, he picked up 1-24 in the second dig.
Jasprit Bumrah recently said in a press conference when asked about the fittest Indian player, “I know the answer you are searching for, but I would like to say my name, because I am a fast bowler. Being a fast bowler and playing in this country in the heat takes a lot of requirement. So I will always promote a fast bowler.”
Ashwin said while talking to journalist Vimal Kumar on YouTube Channel, Ash ki Bat, “Jasprit Bumrah is a fast bowler. He keeps bowling 145 km/h. He is a crowned jewel of Indian cricket. He is the Kohinoor diamond of Indian cricket. Let him say whatever he wants. After Kapil Dev, has there been an Indian bowler bigger than Bumrah?”
“People want to say that he got injured, how is he the fittest cricketer? There is a lot of difference. One is a tipper lorry and one is a Mercedes-Benz. Mercedes-Benz can be driven carefully, it’s chauffeur-driven. Tipper Lorry has to move from north to south with so much load. A fast bowler is a tipper lorry, they will break down. He has come back from a stress fracture and is bowling at 145 km/h. Give him credit,” the off spinner added.
Bumrah has ticked the right boxes in his career and he will look to keep going strongly at the top level.
The second Test match between India and Bangladesh will be played at Green Park, Kanpur from September 27.
