David Warner gives massive hint on his retirement from Test cricket after a poor World Cup outing for Australia

Australian opener and stalwart David Warner has given a massive update on his future as he shared how test cricket will be the first format from which he will retire when the time comes. He even hinted how the upcoming Ashes might be his last Test series. England will host the Ashes in June-July next year and Warner will look to make the most of it and end his red ball cricket career with a bang.

Warner shared how retiring from test cricket will mean he will be able to focus more on limited overs cricket with the ODI World Cup coming up next year in India and the T20 World Cup to be held in 2024 in the United States.

“Test cricket will probably be the first one to fall off,” said Warner on Triple M’s Deadset Legends show. “Because that’s how it will pan out. The T20 World Cup is in 2024, (one-day) World Cup next year. Potentially it could be my last 12 months in test cricket. But I love the white-ball game; it’s amazing,” shred the experienced opener who had a very sub par T20 World Cup at home where the hosts failed to qualify for the knockouts.

Australia will play India and England away and the tours will have test series before they make their way to India again for the ODI World Cup. The Aussies are also in contention to feature in the finals of the World Test Championship.

When Warner will take a call on his career remains to be seen but what he had at the show implies that it is not far away from now. So some people on social media already think that he may retire from all formats after the 2024 T20 World Cup which will be happening in the United States and West Indies.

“T20 cricket – I love the game. I will be looking to get to 2024,” the left-handed batter said. “For all those people saying I am past it and a lot of those old people are past it, look out. Be careful what you wish for.”

After a disappointing World CUp, the Aussies will look to lift their spirits up again as they will play a two match test series against West Indies at home before they host South Africa for a three match Test and ODI series.
