ENG vs IND 2021: Unfortunate dismissal but not anything I could have done about it – Rohit Sharma

India’s opening batsman Rohit Sharma was getting off to good starts but he wasn’t able to convert them into substantial scores.

Rohit was doing all the hard work in the initial stages of his innings but he was getting dismissed after settling at the crease.

However, Rohit was finally able to go past the 50-run mark in the first innings of the ongoing second Test match at Lord’s. Rohit once again showed all the patience while playing against the England bowlers in the tough conditions.

Rohit left the ball with aplomb and showed great defensive skills. In fact, Rohit is well known to hit the ground running in the limited overs format but he has curbed his natural instincts as an opener in the tough English conditions.

Rohit added 126 runs with KL Rahul for the opening alliance after Joe Root won the toss and elected to bowl first in overcast conditions. Rohit went on to score 83 runs as he batted at the top of his game but was unlucky to miss out on a well deserved hundred. The Indian opener got a fine delivery from James Anderson who brought the ball into the right-hander, which ended his stay at the crease.

Rohit admitted that it was unfortunate dismissed but not anything he could have done about it as it was a peach of a delivery.

“Yeah you can say so, I wouldn’t say the best but definitely the most challenging I have played. I felt really good, I was very happy. Unfortunate dismissal but not anything I could have done about that,” Rohit Sharma said while talking in the post-match press conference.

Rohit added that it is a challenge to curb natural instincts and he has been trying to do that in the ongoing series against England. The right-hander from Mumbai has shown great patience and skills to succeed in English conditions.

“When the conditions are against you, you have to keep talking to yourself and cut down the unnecessary shots, especially with the new ball.Once you get the feel of the pitch then you can try and play some shots,” said Rohit when questioned about how he has controlled his natural instincts.

India were 276-3 at the end of the day’s play with KL Rahul unbeaten on 127 runs with Ajinkya Rahane.
