ENG vs IND 2022: They’ve got something going on at the right time – Michael Vaughan on India’s approach in T20Is vs England

Former England captain Michael Vaughan is impressed with India’s new aggressive approach in the T20I format. India was playing with a timid approach but they have played with aggression in the T20I series against England.

India has made the most of the PowerPlay conditions and they have been able to hit the ground running. The visitors scored 66-2 in the first T20I and then 61-2 in the second T20I in the first six overs.

In fact, it has been noticed that India is continuing to play with an aggressive approach, and losing a couple of wickets is not making them detour from their original plan.

India scored 198 runs in the first game whereas they posted 170 runs in the second game. In fact, India was struggling at 89-5 in the second T20I but Ravindra Jadeja was able to help his team get to a par score.

Vaughan said on Cricbuzz, “They got to 170 from 100/5 (89/5), Jadeja deserves a lot of credit. It’s the first time I am seeing India thinking that if they can carry on with this mindset, aggression and skill-set with the ball in hand, and when you think what KL Rahul can add to this team along with 1-2 players who can hit it a long way, the World Cup is right around the corner and they’ve got something going on at the right time.” (sic)

On the other hand, former Indian fast bowler Zaheer Khan believes it will be imperative for India to have the right momentum before the T20I World Cup.

“You talk about momentum a lot. The momentum of the Indian team in leading up to the tournament is going to be crucial. They should keep on building that confidence as they get closer to the tournament. For sure they know England are not an easy side to beat. So when you have such performances against such a quality team, that does put you in a mindset that you have a chance of winning the big one in a few months down the road.”

India will look to continue the good show in the upcoming matches and this new approach is lauded by the cricket pundits. But there is no doubt that India might lose a few matches with this new strategy however they should continue with the same approach.
