Legendary Sunil Gavaskar has backed Rishabh Pant to walk into India’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad. Pant is all set to return to action in the upcoming season of Indian Premier League 2024 for Delhi Capitals. The Capitals have retained Pant as their skipper for the forthcoming season ahead of the auction.
Pant has scored 2838 runs in 98 IPL matches at an average of 34.61 and a blistering strike rate of 147.97. In his absence, David Warner led the Delhi Capitals in IPL 2023.
But, Pant doesn’t have a great T20I record as he has scored only 987 runs in 66 T20I matches at an average of 22.83 and a strike rate of 126.54. However, the left-hander has played some unbelievable knocks in Test cricket and has the skills to turn the match on its head.
“Yeah, he walks back into the team. He’s an impact player. He shows his fitness in the IPL. Four months to go for the IPL. He plays the IPL. Whatever he does at the IPL. If he plays the whole IPL without any injury setback, then he walks into the team. Whether he scores one run or no runs at all in the IPL. I think he is a game changer. He would be one of the first couple of picks if I was a selector,” said Gavaskar on Star Sports.
Pant will certainly add a lot of value to the Indian team squad and he will aim to get the job done for his team. The left-hander has the skills to turn the match on its head and he will look to deliver the goods with his blistering batting. India will play four more T20Is before the T20 World Cup.
