Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has backed Yashasvi Jaiswal to score 40 Test centuries after the left-hander scored a brilliant hundred in the opening Test against Australia at Optus Stadium, Perth, which India won by 295 runs. Jaiswal was dismissed for a blob in the first innings while going for the booming drive on the off-side but could only manage an outside edge.
However, the southpaw played with maturity in the second innings, scoring a magnum opus knock of 161 runs off 297 balls. Jaiswal scored his fourth Test century and his knock was laden with 15 fours and three maximums.
The youngster has shown the skills to go a long way in his career and he will look to continue the good form at the top level.
Glenn Maxwell said on the Grade Cricketer podcast, “Jaiswal doesn’t seem to have many weaknesses, plays a short ball well, drives well, plays spin unbelievably well and can absorb pressure for periods of time. He’s a guy that’s probably going to get more than 40 Test hundreds and re-write some different records as well.”
Maxwell also showered praise on India’s gun fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, who returned with match figures of 8-82 in the opening Test. Bumrah bagged the Player of the Match for his lethal bowling show and Maxwell feels the ace pacer will go down as the best fast bowler of all time.
“Bumrah is going to go down as potentially the best fast bowler of all time, maybe not with the amount of wickets he takes in every format. But for the guys that have played against him, it is just so difficult, so difficult. He’s just got such unique action, unique ability with the ball. He seems like a complete package,” said Maxwell.
The second Test match between Australia and India, which will be a pink-ball game, will be played at Adelaide Oval from December 6 onwards.
