The Gujarat Titans (GT) are in discussions to bring former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh into their coaching staff ahead of the IPL 2025 season. This development comes amid significant changes, with head coach Ashish Nehra and Director of Cricket Vikram Solanki preparing to exit the franchise.
The impending departures of Nehra and Solanki mark a substantial shift for the Gujarat-based team. Both have been integral to the Titans since their debut in 2022, guiding them to an IPL title in their inaugural season and a runner-up finish in 2023. Gary Kirsten, who served as the team’s mentor, has already moved on to a full-time role with the Pakistan cricket team.
While no official confirmation has been made regarding Yuvraj Singh’s potential role, it is clear that the Titans are gearing up for significant changes in their coaching staff.
A source close to the developments told News18, “Lot of changes on the cards. Ashish Nehra and Vikram Solanki are highly likely to move on and discussions around Yuvraj Singh have already begun. Nothing is finalised right now but there could be some major changes in the coaching staff of the Gujarat Titans.”
The restructuring of the coaching staff comes at a critical time for the Titans, who faced challenges in the IPL 2024 season. Following the transfer of Hardik Pandya to Mumbai Indians, GT struggled to maintain their form, exacerbated by the absence of pacer Mohammed Shami due to an ankle injury. Despite the promising leadership of young batter Shubman Gill, who was handed the captaincy, the team finished at a disappointing eighth position in the standings.
Yuvraj Singh’s potential involvement could bring a fresh perspective to the franchise as his experience and knowledge of the game could be invaluable to the Titans. His presence might also inspire the younger players and help in rebuilding a squad capable of competing at the highest level.
The coming weeks are crucial for the Gujarat Titans as they aim to finalize their coaching setup ahead of the 2025 season. The decisions made will be pivotal in shaping the team’s strategy for the upcoming season.
