Former England skipper Michael Vaughan lauded Ravindra Jadeja for his fine century on the opening day of the third Test match at Rajkot on Thursday. Vaughan reckons Jadeja played a more traditional style of Test cricket than Rohit Sharma and Sarfaraz Khan.
Jadeja scored a fine knock of 110 runs on the opening day and added 204 runs with skipper Rohit Sharma scoring a brilliant knock of 131 runs. The left-hander scored his third Test century as he batted at the top of his game.
The all-rounder also completed 3000 Test runs and 1000 runs against England. However, Jadeja could only add two more runs to his overnight score on Friday as he was caught and bowled by Joe Root.
India were tottering at 33-3 but Jadeja added a crucial alliance with Rohit Sharma. Furthermore, Jadeja added 77 runs with Sarfaraz Khan to help post 326 on the opening day.
Speaking to Cricbuzz, Michael Vaughan said, “Jadeja’s mindset is like a top-order batter despite him playing at No.7 for the most part of his career. He is willing to do the hard yards, he is willing to see a bowler off, he played more traditional style Test match than Rohit Sharma and Sarfaraz Khan. He was a throwback to how we played Test match cricket. Just bat, bat and bat, do not give any chances.”
Jadeja has been a consistent performer with the bat in the last few years. The left-hander had also scored a fine knock of 87 runs in the first innings of the opening Test at Hyderabad.
“Ravindra Jadeja is a class act. There is only one area of his game where you can challenge him – a yard outside of off stump, fuller length where you can nip it away. Jimmy and Mark Wood tried that through the day. he played and missed a few. On Indian wickets where there is not a lot of zip, I tink that he is a very very consistent performer.”
Jadeja scored a brilliant knock of 112 runs and he will look to deliver with the ball.
