“Hopefully people don’t write me off,” says Australian veteran opening batter Aaron Finch ahead of the BBL season

Australian veteran opening batters Aaron Finch believes that he still has a lot to offer and he is looking to make the most out of his upcoming stint with the Melbourne Renegades in the Big Bash League. He is all set to make an impact in the new BBL season as it is important for him to prove that he is still the explosive batter that he was once known for.

Finch had a very quiet year in terms of runs and that has affected him very much. There have been questions over his form in T20 Internationals. However following his retirement from the One Day International format, he has a lot of time to evaluate his position in the T20s and hence the BBL is a big event for Finch.

While Finch guided the Australian T20I team to the trophy in the 2021 World Cup in United Arab Emirates, the Kangaroos unfortunately faltered when it came to their home as they were knocked out of the group stage due a heavy opening day defeat against New Zealand.

Hence Finch will be seen in the BBL next as he looks to regain the lost rhythm and legacy in the T20 format. He will not be a part of the Indian Premier League after he was released by Kolkata Knight Riders ahead of the mini IPL auction scheduled to happen later this month.

Finch pleaded with the people to not write him off yet as he still has a lot of juice left in him in the T20 format. “Hopefully people don’t write me off too quick. I’m really keen to get back into it. Once you have a little break for a while, it gets the juices flowing again.”

While the Renegades picked Liam Livingstone as their No.1 pick in the BBL draft but unfortunately for the Renegades a test call up for the allrounder meant that Livingstone decided to opt out of the competition. Therefore they have roped in Andre Russell and Martin Guptill as their picks.

The recent picks have made Finch very happy as he feels that both he players will bring in a lot of their experience of playing in this format for over the years and that will help the Renegades in moving forward. “We’ve added some real strength to our group, so for us it’s just about starting the tournament well. In T20 cricket, experience counts for a lot. Guys like Andre Russell and Martin Guptill have dominated world cricket for a long time, so they’re huge draw cards for our club. The Big Bash is a phenomenal tournament and we get some of the best players in the world,” Finch explained the importance and value of adding Russell and Guptill to their squad.

The Renegades finished last in the previous BBL and will be eager to change that completely this time. They will like to forget a season where they only had three wins. So with the addition of solid players like Guptill and Russell, the team will be looking to turn tables this season. The Renegades will start their new season against the Brisbane Heat in an away clash on 15 December.
