Departing India’s bowling coach Paras Mhambrey has lauded Ravichandran Ashwin, calling him as unique. Ashwin has been a consistent performer for India over the years and has done a terrific job, especially in Test cricket.
The veteran off-spinner has bagged 516 wickets in 100 Test matches at an impressive average of 23.75 and he has also scored 3309 runs at 26.26.
Ashwin has an impeccable record while playing in the home conditions and he has been a force to reckon with in the spin-friendly conditions.
Ashwin is known to experiment with his action and variations and keeps adding more to his rich arsenal as he is not afraid to take his risks.
Mhambrey said in an interview with the Hindu, “I find Ravichandran Ashwin very unique.”
Earlier, Mhambrey had tipped Ashwin as one of India’s greatest match-winners.
Mhambrey said, “I feel Ash (R. Ashwin) is one of the greatest match-winners this country has produced. To be able to learn from him. To be able to have those conversations. I have grown as a person and as a coach as well.”
Last year, Mhambrey had said after India’s win against the West Indies, “We in the dressing room know the value of a bowler’s performance. According to me, Ashwin is one of the greatest match-winners of our country. He has won a lot of matches for us and has been a consistent performer.”
Meanwhile, in an interview with Times of India, Mhambrey said fast bowler Mohammed Shami and Ravichandran Ashwin’s future needs to be discussed.
India will next tour Sri Lanka for three T20Is and as many ODIs, which will be Gautam Gambhir’s first assignment as the new head coach. The BCCI is yet to name a new batting and bowling coach.
