Former Indian wicket-keeper bat Dinesh Karthik has predicted that Rohit Sharma-led team will win the Test series against Bangladesh by 2-0. The Tigers recently stunned Pakistan by 2-0 while playing away but Karthik reckons the visitors might not be able to give a tough time to India while playing on Indian soil.
India has an outstanding record while playing in the home conditions and they last lost a home Test series back in 2012 against England. Thus, they have been unbeaten in the last 12 years while playing in the known conditions.
Furthermore, India has a potent squad and not many teams have found a way to get past them.
“I personally don’t think that Bangladesh will give India a tough time. Beating India in India is a humongous task, and although Bangladesh has played well in Pakistan, I don’t believe they’ll trouble India much,” Karthik said on Cricbuzz.
On the other hand, Karthik reckons India will most likely play on slightly pace-oriented pitches. India has a strong pace battery in Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep and Yash Dayal.
“I get the feeling India’s going to play on slightly pace-oriented pitches, knowing that it’s a good way to beat Bangladesh. Also, they will be preparing for the Australian Test series. I think they will only play with two spinners—Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja—followed by three fast bowlers,” Karthik said in the same interview.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh has never beaten India in a Test match and there is no doubt that they will have their work cut out in the upcoming two-match series. The Tigers will be a confident unit after shocking Pakistan but they would know that India will be a different challenge for them.
India will take on Bangladesh in the opening Test at Chennai on September 19.
