India’s talisman Virat Kohli is regarded as one of the best batters of his era and his belief to win every match for the team separates him from the rest. Kohli revealed he has always had the belief that he can be the man for his team and the mantra has worked wonders for him.
Kohli has played an instrumental role in the success of the Indian team over the last decade in all three formats of the game. The right-hander had played a magnum opus knock in the team’s opening game of the T20 World Cup 2022 against arch-rivals Pakistan. India needed 28 off the last eight balls and Kohli had turned the game on its head with two sixes against Haris Rauf.
Meanwhile, Kohli was dismissed after scoring 14 runs in the first innings of the World Test Championship final against Australia at the Oval. Kohli is batting unbeaten on 44 runs in the second essayand he will be looking to get a big score in order to get India close to a huge target of 444 runs.
“What motivates me is knowing that the opportunity I have every game that I play for India, to make my team win,” Kohli told the ICC ahead of the WTC Final. I don’t think in sport there is any bigger motivation than that. I wake up every morning of any game that I play believing that I’m going to be the guy who is going to make my team win.”
“I’m still as excited to be the man that helps my team when I’m batting out there,” Kohli said.
The talisman added he wants his team to feel comfortable in the dressing room when he is batting out in the middle.
“I want my team to feel comfortable and they can breathe a sigh of relief that I’m out there and (knowing) I can do the job. That’s something that I’ve always taken a lot of pride in and I feel very grateful, as I said, to be in that position where the team can expect that from me.”
“I still wake up every morning believing that I can be the man for the team,” said Kohli.
Kohli has been a match-winner for India over the years and he will look to end India’s hoodoo of winning a major ICC trophy.
