Former Indian spinner Pragyan Ojha showered praise on Yashasvi Jaiswal after the left-hander’s match-winning knock in the second T20I against Afghanistan at the Holkar Cricket Stadium, Indore on Sunday. While chasing 173 runs, Jaiswal gave a blistering start to the team in the Powerplay overs by taking the attack on the Afghanistan bowlers.
Jaiswal went on to score an aggressive knock of 68 runs off just 34 balls with the help of five fours and half-a-dozen sixes. Ergo, the left-hander scored his runs with an impressive strike rate of 200.
Jaiswal scored his fourth T20I century and he continues to impress with his aggressive batting at the top of the order. The southpaw also added a fine alliance of 92 runs with Shivam Dube, who scored an unbeaten knock of 63 runs.
Pragyan Ojha said on Colors Cineplex, “The way he batted, the pace at which he played, the confidence he showed, he showed maturity along with striking ability. He wasn’t leaving the game. He was taking the game forward.
“He scored a huge percentage of the team’s runs. It shows his hunger. He knows very few tickets are available for the World Cup. If you have to get that, you will have to play like this and it’s extremely important that you finish the game as well,” the former India spinner added.
Former Indian batter Suresh Raina said he likes batters, who play straight down the ground. Jaiswal scored a lot of his runs in the V, which impressed the former CSK batter.
“If you see Jaiswal’s wagon wheel, he has scored runs in all four directions. I like players who play straight down the ground. Your long-hitting has a better success rate if you hit straight.”
“Both Yashasvi and Shivam Dube do that. The way he hit sixes, he is a bottom-handed player who plays with full strength and in the ‘V’. A batter who hits in the ‘V’ will never be troubled.”
The third and last T20I of the series between India and Afghanistan will be played at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on Wednesday.
