Indian all-rounder Shivam Dube was delighted after bagging his first Player of the Series award in the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan. India won the third T20I in the second Super Over after the match was tied at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on Wednesday.
Dube was the star of the show in the series for the hosts, scoring 124 runs and also bagging two wickets. The left-hander scored an impressive knock of 60 runs off just 40 balls in the opening game of the series against the visitors. Furthermore, he returned with impressive figures of 1-9 in the two overs he bowled to bag the Player of the Match for his all-round performance.
Dube continued his good form in the second game, returning with an unbeaten knock of 61 runs in the run-chase of 173 runs at Indore.
But Dube was dismissed after scoring a solitary run in the final game. With this impressive performance against Afghanistan, Dube has put himself in contention for the T20 World Cup selection.
The lanky batter said in the post-match presentation, “As an all-rounder you always want to be the Player of the Series, and this is something new I achieved in my life and it feels really good. We scored a lot of runs on this ground and we thought we would win before the superover, but such is cricket and well done to both teams. There are many things I want to improve, especially in my bowling and I’m trying to get better with each passing game.”
Meanwhile, Dube had a stellar run in IPL 2023 for CSK, scoring 418 runs in 14 innings at an impressive average of 38 and a strike rate of 158.33. Ergo, he played a key role in taking the MS Dhoni-led team to glory in the previous season. Thus, he will look to replicate the same performance in the upcoming season.
