Former Indian wicket-keeper bat Saba Karim feels it seemed as if only Rohit Sharma was prepared to bat in the Super Over in the second T20I against Afghanistan at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Benglauru on Wednesday.
After scoring a blistering knock of 121 runs in the first innings to help India post a par score of 212 runs on the board, Rohit batted twice in the two Super Overs.
Rohit smashed two sixes in the first Super Over against Azmatullah Omarzai to help India level the score at 17. India needed two runs on the last ball but Yashasvi Jaiswal could not get the job done after Rohit then decided to retire out.
Rohit once again came out to bat in the second Super Over amid the ambiguity of rules and smashed a four and a six on the first two balls. In fact, the hosts could only manage 11 runs after Rinku Singh was caught behind whereas Rohit Sharma was run out. But Ravi Bishnoi was able to defend it successfully.
“It seemed as if only Rohit Sharma was prepared to bat in the Super Over. The others were not in the mix at all. Again in the second Super Over, Rohit started in such a brilliant manner, got a six and a boundary, before taking a single on the third delivery. Then Rinku got out on his first delivery and then there was a run-out. So I think they were under some pressure because they had to defend only 12 in the second Super Over,” said Karim on JioCinema.
Earlier, India found themselves on the mat as they were 22-4 but Rohit and Rinku Singh were able to bail their team out of trouble. The duo added 190 runs for the fifth wicket, with Rinku contributing 69.
Rohit was also awarded the Player of the Match for his blistering knock. This was India’s seventh win against Afghanistan in T20Is as they continued their domination.
