Former Indian wicket-keeper bat Saba Karim reckons Australia will face a tough bowling attack in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar series. India has bowlers like Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, and Mohammed Shami in the pace department whereas they have quality spinners like Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav.
Indian spinners are always potent in their own conditions and they will be looking to dominate against the visitors. Ashwin will lead the pack for the home team and there is no doubt that the Australian batters will have their work cut out.
“Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja complement each other. They don’t give batters any space to score runs easily as they both can attack the edge of the bat. Jadeja’s ball can come in and can also turn away,” said Karim on India News Sport.
The former Indian selector added that Ashwin can challenge the inside edges of the right-handed batters with his variations.
“Ashwin can get the inside edge with his regular off-spinners and his carrom ball increases the chances of the outside edge. Not many teams have such a bowling combination. The majority of Nathan Lyon’s wickets come from inside edges. He doesn’t have the carrom ball,” Karim added.
Karim went on to claim that India has a very balanced bowling attack and they will be looking to come up with a collective show.
“India has a very balanced bowling attack. However, the spinners still have the upper hand. But our pace bowlers also back them up brilliantly. They know how to extract reverse swing in Indian conditions. It is very important to go into the match with the right fast bowlers,” said Karim.
The cricketer-turned-commentator added that Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Shami have done a fine job whereas Siraj is also coming up in the ranks.
“We have Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Shami who have done exceptionally well in these conditions. Mohammed Siraj is another emerging pacer who knows where to pitch the ball and how to use the reverse swing. The Australian batters are under great pressure, as they will be facing a tough bowling attack,” Karim added.
