Former Indian fielding coach R Sridhar reckons only Glenn Maxwell could play the kind of knock he played against India in the third T20I at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati on Tuesday. Maxwell smashed an unbeaten knock of 104 runs off just 48 balls with the help of eight fours and as many sixes to take Australia over the line in the run-chase of 223 runs.
Maxwell also scored the joint-fastest T20I century for Australia along with Josh Inglis and Aaron Finch as he completed his hundred off just 47 balls.
The right-hander took the Indian bowlers to the cleaners and he was able to get the job done for the visitors. In fact, Australia needed 43 runs in the last two overs but Maxwell did the bulk of the damage to help the tourists stay afloat in the series.
“You could expect this kind of innings only from someone like Maxwell. Obviously, there were a couple of other good performances like Ruturaj’s innings and Jason Behrendorff’s 1/12 in 4 overs, but Maxwell was definitely the top performer of the day. He’s got that belief that he’ll pull off something like this all the time when he goes into bat, and the kind of power he generates through his bat swing is quite amazing.”
“Each time I look at his technique, it never ceases to amaze me. Because the way that bottom hand comes down and the speed he generates is magnificent. Also, he’s got a new shot in his repertoire where he goes well outside the line of the ball and hits it over the leg side, especially behind square,” Sridhar said while speaking on JioCinema.
It was a mind-boggling knock from Glenn Maxwell as he played at the top of his game. Matthew Wade also added the finishing touches with a 16-ball 28 in the end.
Maxwell will return back to Australia and will take no further part in the series. The fourth T20I between India and Australia will be played at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium, Raipur on Friday.
