Shreyas Iyer has been declared fit ahead of the Delhi Test match against Australia, the BCCI confirmed on Tuesday. Iyer had missed the opening Test match of the series due to a back injury but he is all set to make his return.
In Iyer’s absence, in-form Suryakumar Yadav was given his maiden Test cap by former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri but SKY was dismissed cheaply for eight runs.
Iyer had recently scored a fighting knock of 29 runs in the second innings of the second Test match against Bangladesh to help his team chase down a tricky target.
However, Iyer was ruled out of the limited-overs series against New Zealand. Iyer had last played in the ODI series against Sri Lanka and he will be looking to hit the ground running against the Aussies.
Iyer has amassed 624 runs in seven Test matches at an average of 56.73 with the help of one century and five fifties.
Meanwhile, India won the first Test match against Australia by an innings and 132 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the four-match series and enhanced their chances of qualifying for the World Test Championship final. Rohit Sharma scored 120 runs whereas Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja took 15 wickets among them.
Ergo, India will look to continue the good show in the second Test match whereas Australia will aim to bounce back strongly in the series.
India’s squad for second Test: Rohit Sharma (Captain), KL Rahul (vice-captain), Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KS Bharat (wk), Ishan Kishan (wk), R. Ashwin, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohd. Shami, Mohd. Siraj, Umesh Yadav, Suryakumar Yadav.
The second Test match will be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi from Friday.
