Former Indian opener Sunil Gavaskar reckons Suryakumar Yadav is facing technical difficulties in his game in the ODI format. Yadav has come under the scanner after he was dismissed for two golden ducks in the first two ODI of the series against Australia.
On both occasions, Yadav was plumbed in front of the wickets by Australia’s gun fast bowler Mitchell Starc. The right-hander played across the line in the second game and he has been troubled by the ball coming back to him.
Gavaskar reckons India’s batting coach Vikram Rathour should work with Suryakumar Yadav on his shortcomings against the moving ball.
“He is facing technical difficulties. Also his stance is an open one. It is good for T20 cricket because any delivery that is overpitched, he can flick it for a six. But here, when the ball is placed right near the foot, with this stance, the bat will definitely come across. It cannot come straight. Hence, if the ball turns inside, he will face difficulty. He needs to spend time with the batting coach on how to come out of this,” said Gavaskar while talking to Star Sports.
Suryakumar Yadav has failed to grab his opportunities in the ODI format as he has scored only 433 runs in 22 ODI matches at an average of 25.47. As Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out with a back injury, Suryakumar Yadav is getting his chances in the final XI.
On the other hand, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has backed Yadav to come good and stated that players with potential will be given a longer run.
Yadav has done a tremendous job for the team in the T20I format and he would want to grab his chances in the 50-overs version.
India was outplayed in the second ODI as Australia won comprehensively by 10 wickets. The deciding ODI between India and Australia will be played at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on Wednesday.
