IND vs AUS 2023: Umesh Yadav displayed a reverse swing masterclass in Indore Test, says Parthiv Patel

Former Indian wicket-keeper bat Parthiv Patel heaped praise on Umesh Yadav after the home team dismissed Australia for 197 runs in the first innings of the ongoing third Test match. Yadav got the ball to reverse in the opening session of the second day’s play.

Cameron Green and Peter Handscomb were able to play the first hour successfully without any damage but it was Yadav and Ravichandran Ashwin, who got India back into the contest.

Ashwin dismissed Peter Handscomb whereas Yadav plumbed Cameron Green in front of the wickets as he got the ball to come back into the right-hander. Subsequently, the experienced fast bowler cleaned up Mitchell Starc and Todd Murphy to return with impressive figures of 3-12 in the five overs he bowled.

Furthermore, Umesh Yadav completed 100 wickets in the Indian conditions. He became the 13th overall bowler (fifth pacer) to achieve the milestone and he is the quickest with 4652 balls.

Parthiv Patel hailed Umesh Yadav for bowling a stump to stump line and getting the ball to reverse on a pitch, which has variable bounce.

“Umesh Yadav is the best bowler to bowl in Indian conditions. He completed 100 wickets in India as well, so we have to praise him. He bowls reverse swing well and bowls stump to stump. In terms of accuracy, he knows the length. Even if it is a low bounce wicket, he knows the top of the off length, the one that bowling coaches tell you.”

“He keeps bowling that. If you look at Cameron Green’s wicket, it was top of the stump, even if it was on leg stump. When he bowled Mitchell Starc and Murphy, you could see that he was bowling top of the off length. Stump to stump bowling is necessary on such tracks. Umesh Yadav has pace, reverse swing, he knows the length to bowl and the line to bowl. If you want to see a masterclass in reverse swing, then that was shown by Umesh Yadav today,” said Patel while talking to Cricbuzz.

Meanwhile, Australia got a first-innings lead of 88 runs and India are 79-4 at tea on the second day in their second innings. The home team is still trailing by nine runs and they will look to get a lead of more than 100 runs to make a match out of it.
