Ind vs Eng 2021: I don’t think the Indian team will be complacent – Sunil Gavaskar

Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar has opined that he doesn’t think the Indian team will be complacent in the fourth Test match against England.

The hosts currently lead the four-match Test series by 2-1 and they need to either win or draw the final Test to seal their berth for the ICC World Test Championship.

Knowing Virat Kohli’s and the Indian team playing style, they will look to go for the win and the draw will be the second choice for the host. Thus, there is no doubt that Virat Kohli and Co. will push for the win.

India has dominated the last two Test matches and they have made a roaring comeback after losing the first Test match by a massive margin of 227 runs. The hosts have made the most of their own conditions and the spinners have done a fabulous job for the team.

The Virat Kohli-led team has come up with a collective effort and they have been able to tick the right boxes. The Indian team has been one of the most consistent teams in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship and they will not like to make the mistake of taking things lightly.

“I don’t think the Indian team will be complacent because they know what they have to do. They know if they draw the match they will be through and if they lose the match, then they are in trouble. And that’s why I don’t think they will relax at all because they know that playing in the first-ever World Test Championship final is a really big thing and then to win it will be even bigger. So, I don’t think complacency will creep in at all,” said Sunil Gavaskar while talking to Star Sports.

On the other hand, the third Test match had come under the scanner as it was offering turn from the opening session. The Test match was wrapped up within two days but the Little Master feels the pitch won’t be any different from the last two Test matches.

“I don’t think the pitch will be very different from what we have already seen because it is the same square on which eleven pitches are there, out of which we are going to play on one more pitch. What will happen is that unless there is a lot of rolling done, unless there is a lot of watering done at the same time, this pitch will become drier and then help the ball to turn a little bit more. So, hopefully, it will be a pitch that will play a lot better,” said Sunil Gavaskar.

Gavaskar doesn’t expect a lot of changes to the playing XI but it would be interesting to note who between Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Siraj will replace Jasprit Bumrah, who will miss the final Test due to personal reasons.

The fourth Test will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium from March 4.
