Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan has likened Yashasvi Jaiswal’s game with former captain Sourav Ganguly. Pathan feels the left-handed youngster has a potent off-side game like Ganguly and has backed the youngster to go a long way in his career.
The left-hander scored a match-winning knock of 209 runs in the first innings of the second Test match against England at Vizag to play a key role in the team’s series-leveling 106-run win.
Furthermore, Jaiswal scored a fine knock of 80 runs in the first innings of the opening Test match at Hyderabad. Meanwhile, Jaiswal also impressed in IPL 2023, scoring 625 runs in 14 matches at an average of 48.07 and a strike rate of more than 163 while playing for Rajasthan Royals.
Speaking to Star Sports, Irfan Pathan said, “There’s one player who I’m excited for, is Yashasvi Jaiswal. Now, it has to be seen how he performs in IPL. What an exciting player he is. He possesses the off-side game, just like Dada (Sourav Ganguly). Just like we used to see him and say, ‘He’s the king of the off-side’.”
Pathan predicted that Jaiswal could be as successful as Sourav Ganguly if he goes on to play for the next 10 years.
“If he goes on to play for the next 10 years, we will speak about his game as much as we spoke about Dada’s. Jaiswal is that kind of a player. And now he has scored a double hundred in international hundred and he has a great background story.”
Jaiswal, 22, has all the talent under his belt and has also worked hard to get to the top level.
The third Test match between India and England will be played at Rajkot from 15th February onwards.
