Former Indian fast bowler Zaheer Khan feels Yashasvi Jaiswal showed traits that turn players into legends of the game. Jaiswal scored another impressive knock of 57 runs in the first innings of the fifth Test match against England at Dharamsala on Thursday.
The left-hander batted aggressively as he scored five fours and three sixes in his fine knock. Jaiswal has thus far scored 712 runs in nine innings of the ongoing Test series at an impressive average of 89.
With this knock, Jaiswal becomes the second Indian after Sunil Gavaskar in 45 years to amass 700 runs in a series. Gavaskar scored more than 700 runs in a series on two occasions.
Zaheer Khan lauded Jaiswal for making the most of his terrific form in the series against England.
“Yashasvi Jaiswal was a bit cautious towards the start but as soon as the spinners came, Yashasvi went all guns blazing. When you’re in good form, the mindset should be to not give away wickets by playing rash shots and Yashasvi displayed just that,” Zaheer told Colors Cineplex.
“You could see the hunger for runs in Yashasvi’s batting. This type of series does not come easily for batters and Yashasvi made the most out of his good form. Yashasvi displayed all the qualities that turn players into the legends of the game,” Zaheer added.
Jaiswal has batted at the top of his game in the ongoing series and has scored two double-centuries. The youngster has grown in confidence and also completed 1000 Test runs in his Test career. The southpaw became the second quickest Indian to score 1000 Test runs as he got there in 16 innings whereas Vinod Kambli is the fastest to get to the landmark in 14 innings.
India are currently 305-3, leading by 87 runs.
