Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Faf du Plessis heaped praise on Anuj Rawat and stated that the youngster is a player for the future.
Rawat has impressed while opening the innings with Faf du Plessis and has played a key role in giving a good start to his team in the ongoing IPL 2022.
The left-hander scored a fine knock of 66 runs off just 47 balls against Mumbai Indians at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune on Saturday. The southpaw scored two fours and six sixes in his fine innings as played a key role in helping RCB chase down 152 runs with ease.
Rawat has scored 113 runs in four matches of IPL 2022 at an average of 28.25 and a strike rate of 120.21. The left-hander will look to continue the good show and it is a great learning experience for him as he is sharing the dressing room with veterans like Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli, Dinesh Karthik, and Glenn Maxwell.
“I spoke about him before at the start of the tournament. Just looking from the potential that he has. Lots of conversations between the two of us. Trying to get that potential and that skill that he has to game awareness. The way he’s playing at the moment is beautiful, the way he takes on the game even early on coming down the wicket, showing that unteamed. That’s what makes the young guy young gun, so good for us at the moment. He’s a very good player for the future,” Faf du Plessis told the broadcasters.
On the other hand, Faf du Plessis also showered praise on Akash Deep, who has impressed with his extra pace. Deep returned with impressive figures 1-20 in his quota of four overs against Mumbai Indians.
“Akash Deep was really good tonight, and if you could hold that back off the length, there was something there.”
Meanwhile, Anuj Rawat was awarded the Player of the Match for his fine knock. Rawat was delighted with his performance and he was really happy to make a winning contribution to his team.
He said after the game, “Feels great. Scoring runs and winning. Very happy to be doing this. Was just following my process. I was starting well, wasn’t able to finish well, did it today (talking about earlier failures). Happy and enjoying the company of Virat and Faf.”
