Delhi Capitals opener David Warner didn’t have a great start to his IPL 2022 campaign as he could only manage four runs off 12 balls against Lucknow Super Giants.
However, Warner announced himself in the tournament as he scored 61 runs off 45 balls against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai on Sunday.
Warner added 93 runs off just 52 balls with his opening partner Prithvi Shaw, who also scored a quickfire knock of 51 runs off just 29 balls. Thus, the right and left-hand batting combination gave a blistering start to their team after Shreyas Iyer won the toss and decided to bowl first.
With this fifty, Warner becomes the first player in the IPL history to score 50 fifties in the tournament. Warner has been the most consistent foreign batter in the IPL folklore and he once again proved his mettle on Sunday against KKR.
Warner was able to time the ball to perfection and played at the top of his game. Prithvi Shaw was the aggressor in the partnership whereas Warner played a second fiddle.
“I love watching him from the non-striker’s end. He was striking it very well. He is in good touch. I hope we do well at the top in the upcoming matches as well,” Prithvi told the broadcasters.
“Just keeping it really simple. It was a good wicket to bat on. The pp was important for us, and we made the most,” Shaw said while speaking about his good run in IPL 2022.”
Meanwhile, Warner was roped in for INR 6.25 Crores by Delhi Capitals, which many experts reckon was a steal buy for the franchise.
Courtesy of a fine opening alliance of 93 runs between Warner and Shaw, DC was able to post 215 runs on the board, which is the highest total of this season. DC completed a comprehensive win of 44 runs to win their second match of the edition.
