The Indian Premier League 2025 has been suspended indefinitely amid rising India-Pakistan tension on the borders, ESPN has reported on Friday. An official statement from the BCCI is yet to be made on the development.
In the aftermath of the Pahalgam attacks by terrorists on April 27, which killed 27 civilians, Narendra Modi’s government decided to launch Operation Sindoor, which attacked nine terrorist camps in PoK and Pakistan.
Meanwhile, the Thursday match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals at Dharamsala was called off because of security reasons. PBKS openers Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya added 122 runs for the opening alliance in the first 10 overs, with the former scoring 50 runs, whereas the latter scored 74 runs off just 34 balls.
IPL chairman Arun Dhumal earlier stated that any further decisions would be made in consultation with the government. “We are reviewing the situation. It’s evolving, and we haven’t received any directive from the government yet. Any decision will be taken keeping all logistical considerations and the best interests of stakeholders in mind,” Dhumal said.
It is reported that various options including a possible change of venues were discussed before this decision was taken.
Meanwhile, 58 matches were played in the ongoing IPL 2025 season, including the Thursday match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals. A total of 12 matches were remaining in the league stage, which were to be followed by four playoffs games, including the final.
