Sharjah Warriors skipper Moeen Ali admitted they kept losing wickets and made some silly mistakes after they were beaten by Gulf Giants by seven wickets at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Monday. With this loss, the Warriors were knocked out of the tournament as Dubai Capitals were able to make it to the final four.
Sharjah Warriors were skittled out for a meager score of 107 after Gulf Giants skipper James Vince decided to bowl first by winning the toss. Kohler-Cadmore scored 33 runs for the home team but the rest of the batters failed to make any kind of substantial contribution.
Ali admitted that they could not put enough runs on the board throughout the tournament and it led to their downfall.
Moeen Ali said in the post-match presentation, “We wanted to go out and be positive but the wicket didn’t allow that. We kept losing wickets and made some silly mistakes. Our batters haven’t had much time throughout the tournament except for Kohler-Cadmore. We haven’t done well in that department. A number of things I can look at but will put it down to not having enough runs on the board. It’s been a fantastic experience. We want to go better next year and are determined to do well.”
Meanwhile, David Wiese was the pick of the bowlers for Gulf Giants as he scalped five wickets and conceded only 20 runs in his quota of four overs. He was awarded the Player of the Match for his bowling show.
He said after the game, “Just one of those things, it just works out for you on that day. Just kept it simple and everything worked out. If you get too excited by the conditions, it may not work out. For me it is just about keeping it simple and it was my day today. Nice to take some momentum into the playoffs. Good to get over the line tonight.”
James Vince gave credit to his bowlers for making the most of the conditions and keeping the opposition at bay.
He said in the post-match ceremony, “We play every game to try and win it, the bowlers did a fantastic job and got most out of the wicket. Great to get a win and looking forward to Wednesday. Quick turnaround but it does give us options and great to see guys come in and do well. Different conditions next game and we will approach that game in the best way possible.”
Gulf Giants will face Desert Vipers in the first qualifier on Wednesday.
