IPL 2021: Clarity in the role has helped me – Glenn Maxwell

Royal Challengers Bangalore all-rounder Glenn Maxwell believes that the clarity in his role has helped him deliver the goods for the franchise in the ongoing season of the IPL 2021. Maxwell scored a match-winning knock of 57 runs off just 33 balls with the help of three fours and four sixes to help his team post a par score of 164 runs against Punjab Kings at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium on Sunday.

Maxwell has been backed by the RCB’s think tank to bat at number four and he has been able to grab his opportunity. The batter revealed that clarity in his mind is helping him get the job done for the team.

Maxwell has thus far scored 407 runs in 11 innings for RCB at an impressive average of 40.70 and a blistering strike rate of 145.36 in IPL 2021. Furthermore, he has also done a decent job with the ball and thus has played an instrumental role in the success of RCB in the ongoing season.

Maxwell was able to launch his attack after getting settled and added 73 runs with AB de Villiers in which the former did the lion share of the scoring.

Glenn Maxwell said at the post-match presentation, “Not much has been different, came at a nice time out to bat, took a bit of time to assess the conditions, got away with the first couple of risks that I took and then started off. A bit of clarity, I think I have been clear in my mind over the last couple of seasons in the IPL as well as professional cricket. I have found a nice bit of rhythm. Batting at 4, sometimes it’s not the easiest position to bat – but the openers gave us an ideal set-up, took a bit of time to understand the wicket. This is something I have had with Australia for a long period of time (a clarity in the role), this is perhaps why I have had success over there. Coming into RCB, they wanted me to do the same type of role. Really enjoyable to come into the dressing room and not make too many changes. This (Sharjah) wicket is the toughest to adjust, the ball skidded through, unlike at the other venues where the ball held up and gave you some time to go onto the back-foot. Once you get used to it, the more time you spend, the easier it gets”.

Glenn Maxwell will look to continue his good form and RCB will want their all-rounder to keep up the good show. Maxwell has looked settled and Kohli has been able to get the best out of the Australian. The right-hander has thus far scored five fifties in the ongoing edition, which is the most with KL Rahul.

RCB will look to continue the good show in the remaining two matches of the league stage and take their momentum into the playoff stages. The Virat Kohli-led team will next face Sunrisers Hyderabad at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi on Wednesday.
