IPL 2021: MI showed a lot of character to drag the match till the last over – Jayant Yadav

Mumbai Indians all-rounder Jayant Yadav believes the team showed a lot of character to drag the match against Delhi Capitals at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai till the last over. MI could only post 137 runs on the board after their skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to bat first.

MI kept losing wickets in the middle overs at regular intervals and thus could only post an under-par score of 137 runs after they had decided to bat first. Rohit Sharma gave a perfect start to his team as he scored 44 from 30 balls. Furthermore, Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan also got off to starts but failed to convert them into substantial scores.

However, the team came up with a fine bowling performance and didn’t let DC cruise to the total. In fact, MI had won their last two matches after a superb bowling performance from Rahul Chahar, Jasprit Bumrah, and Trent Boult. All of these bowlers had turned the match on its head against SRH and KKR but they just didn’t have enough runs on the board against DC.

MI’s bowling battery once again made life difficult for Delhi Capitals but the Rishabh Pant-led team was able to get over the line in the final over.

Rahul Chahar, Jayant Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah and Kieron Pollard scalped a wicket each and all the MI bowlers were economical in their spell as DC had their work cut out.

Jayant Yadav, who has a Test hundred to his name, stated it was a tough wicket and they were 10-15 runs short of a par score.

“It was a tough wicket, and we were 10-15 runs short of the par score. But when we bowled, there was a lot of dew, and I think we showed a lot of character to drag the match till the last over.”

“At halftime, we were very confident that we were gonna pull this off. It was just about having a good powerplay and taking wickets in the powerplay and just trying to restrict them. In the middle, we did let the game slip a little bit because of the wet ball. But full credit to our bowling unit. To drag the game to the last over with the wet ball, it was a very commendable effort from everybody, and the fielding as well (was good).

Meanwhile, Jayant Yadav had a good outing in his maiden match of the season as he scalped the crucial wicket of DC opener Prithvi Shaw. The right-hander also provided the finishing touches to the team’s total as he scored 23 from 22 balls.
