IPL 2022: Aakash Chopra reveals Faf du Plessis’ challenges in upcoming season

Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra has revealed what will be Faf du Plessis’ challenges in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League. This will be the first time when Faf will be leading an IPL franchise in the tournament. However, Faf has had the experience of leading South Africa and he has also led teams like Comilla Victorians, Paarl Rocks, St Kitts, and Nevis Patriots, and St Lucia Kings in the past.

Thus, Faf has all the leadership experience under his belt and he will look to get the best out of the players. Aakash Chopra feels Faf du Plessis’ challenge will be the fact that he is going to a big franchise, which hasn’t played to its potential in the past. RCB hasn’t yet won an IPL title despite making three finals in the tournament.

It is well known that Faf du Plessis has a cool mind on his shoulders and he will aim to do a good job for RCB.

Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube Channel, “Faf du Plessis is going to lead a very high-profile team. He gets the respect, he is very sorted. He is captaining for the first time in the IPL but he has been an international captain and for a long time. He is a respected captain.”

“He has always been part of the leadership group with a voice that matters. So when he becomes the captain now, he is not looking left-right or over the shoulders that Sanjay Bangar or Mike Hesson will tell. He will listen to everyone but do what his mind says.”

Meanwhile, RCB has big players like Glenn Maxwell and Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis will look to make the most of their experience.

“His challenge will be that he is going to a franchise that has a big name, the performance has not been bad, but since it is not up to their standard, it seems they are short. Virat Kohli in the side, Glenn Maxwell in the side, suddenly you think that things should be very good.”

The renowned commentator reckons RCB has a good bowling line-up and Faf du Plessis will need to get the better of the middle-order.

“It becomes a bit of a challenge to live up to those expectations. Their bowling is good and he will manage it well. It will be interesting how he manages the lower-middle order and getting the best out of Kohli.”

RCB will begin their IPL 2022 campaign on March 27 against Punjab Kings at the DY Patil stadium in Mumbai.
