Sunrisers Hyderabad gun fast bowler Umran Malik has taken giant strides in the recent past and a lot of credit for his rapid growth goes to the team’s fast bowling coach Dale Steyn. Malik revealed that Steyn stands beside him throughout his net sessions to get the best out of him in the ongoing IPL 2022.
Meanwhile, the fast bowler bowled a wayward first over against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Tuesday when SRH was defending 193 runs. However, he bounced back stronger in his next two overs.
Malik troubled MI batters with his extra pace and bounce to return with figures of 3-23 in his three overs. The 22-year-old from Jammu and Kashmir accounted for Tilak Varma, Ishan Kishan, and Daniel Sams. Malik dismissed Varma and Sams with short-pitched deliveries whereas he continuously had Ishan Kishan at sea with his extra pace.
Meanwhile, Malik has scalped 21 wickets in 13 matches of the ongoing IPL 2022 for Sunrisers Hyderabad at an average of 20.
While speaking to senior bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umran Malik said on IPL official website, “If I’m in the nets for three hours, he will stand behind me for three hours and guide me.”
“When we played with the tennis ball, even then people did not want to bat against me because I was so quick,” said the paceman.
In fact, Malik has also copied the way Dale Steyn used to celebrate his wickets.
“He does that punch celebration after I take wickets in the nets, I did it one day and it just stuck with me,” Malik said.
There is no doubt that Malik has shown the skills to go a long way in his career and he must have learned a lot from Dale Steyn in the ongoing IPL 2022. Steyn has all the experience under his belt and has been able to get the best out of the youngster.
