Former Indian batter Sanjay Manjrekar reckons Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant finding form is very important for the franchise in the ongoing season. DC have managed only two wins out of their five matches and they will need to pull up their socks in the upcoming matches.
Pant has scored 144 runs in five matches for DC at an average of 36 and a strike rate of 146.93 in the ongoing season. Meanwhile, David Warner and Prithvi Shaw have done a good job but the team’s middle-order hasn’t been consistent for the team, which has led to their downfall.
It is well known that Rishabh Pant can take the game away from the opposition with his blistering batting but he needs to be more consistent as a leader of the team.
Furthermore, Lalit Yadav and Rovman Powell have failed to deliver for Delhi Capitals in the ongoing season.
Manjrekar said on ESPN Cricinfo: “Rishabh Pant hasn’t fired completely and the same is the case with Powell’s form. Lalit Yadav bats and bowls but we cannot look at him as a pure batter. They need some help down the order and this is why Pant finding form is very important for them. Both Prithvi Shaw and David Warner are high-risk players and there might be a problem if they lose a couple of early wickets.”
On the other hand, Kuldeep Yadav has impressed the most among the Delhi Capitals’ bowlers. The wrist-spinner, who wasn’t in the best of forms in the last couple of years, has hit the right strings as he has snared 11 wickets in five matches at an economy rate of 8.24. Manjrekar feels his return has been the story of the season so far.
“Kuldeep Yadav’s return has been the story of the season so far. It will be a test for him at the Brabourne Stadium and it remains to be seen if he can make an impact like how Yuzvendra Chahal did at the venue.”
DC will face Punjab Kings on Wednesday in Mumbai.
