Mumbai Indians all-rounder Cameron Green said it was a great experience to bat along with Rohit Sharma after playing a match-winning knock of 100 runs off just 47 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Sunday.
Green joined forces with Rohit Sharma after Ishan Kishan was dismissed cheaply. The Australian added a fine alliance of 128 runs with the MI skipper for the second wicket and thus played a key role in helping his team register a convincing win of eight wickets.
Green played at the top of his game to bring up his maiden IPL century. The lanky batter smashed eight fours and as many sixes in his blistering knock and helped MI win the crucial game to stay alive in the playoffs race.
“Yeah, obviously it was a great partnership with Rohit Sharma. He has so much experience playing at these stages and it was a great feeling batting with him,” said Green in the post-match presentation after he was awarded Player of the Match.
Green lauded the Mumbai Indians’ dressing room atmosphere and the management for backing him to the hit. The all-rounder was delighted to play a key role in the team’s success.
“Yes, from a Mumbai family, the motivation is always there. The whole setup has been awesome. This innings was probably for myself. Having men like Rohit, Ishan, and SKY helps with intent at the top. I instructed SKY to finish it once we had 20 runs left to chase. We had a couple of runs and we just went past the victory line,” Green added.
Green has been in good form for MI as he has scored 381 runs in 14 matches at an average of 54.43 and a strike rate of 159.41 in the ongoing IPL 2023.
