Former New Zealand cricketer Simon Doull has questioned Virat Kohli’s sedate approach while playing against Lucknow Super Giants at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on Monday. Kohli scored 61 runs from 44 balls with the help of four fours and as many sixes against the KL Rahul-led team.
In fact, RCB got off to a flying start as they added 56-0 in the PowerPlay overs, with Kohli scoring 42 out of them. However, Kohli took another 10 balls to score his next eight runs to get to his fifty and Doull reckons there is no room for personal milestones in a format like T20.
Kohli scored his runs at a strike rate of 138.64 and the New Zealander feels the talisman could have scored his runs at a more brisk pace.
“Virat Kohli took 10 balls to reach from 42 to 50. There is absolutely no room for personal milestones in this game anymore,” Doull said during the commentary on Star Sports.
RCB posted a par score of 212 runs on the board after they were put into bat by KL Rahul. Faf du Plessis, who got off to a slow start, scored 79 runs from 46 balls whereas Glenn Maxwell scored 59 runs from 29 balls.
Meanwhile, earlier Simon Doull had lashed out at Babar Azam when he scored a hundred for Peshawar Zalmi while playing against Quetta Gladiators in PSL 2023.
“Rather than putting the team first… the last little while, that’s all that been happening. Rather than looking for boundaries, there is still so much firepower to come. Hundreds are brilliant, stats are great, but it has to be team first,” Doull said in the commentary.
On the other hand, RCB went on to lose the thrilling contest by one wicket against LSG after fifties from Marcus Stoinis and Nicholas Pooran.
