IPL 2023: We shouldn’t lose wickets in clumps – David Warner after loss against Mumbai Indians

Delhi Capitals skipper David Warner pointed out that his team shouldn’t lose wickets in clumps after their six-wicket loss against Mumbai Indians at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on Tuesday. The home team posted a par score of 172 runs after Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to bowl first.

The Capitals were 76-1 at one stage but they were reduced to 98-5 as they lost four wickets for only 22 runs. David Warner once again failed to hit the top gear as he meandered to 51 runs off 47 balls.

The much-needed impetus to the innings was given by vice-captain Axar Patel, who smashed 54 runs off just 25 balls.

On the other hand, it was a thrilling finish as five runs were needed off the last over, which was bowled by Anrich Nortje. However, the Australian pair of Cameron Green and Tim David got Mumbai Indians over the line as they ran two off the final ball.

Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals have got off to a horrid start as they have lost all of their four matches. In fact, the Capitals have lost a total of 36 wickets in these four matches and thus their batting unit needs to pull up their socks.

David Warner said in the post-match presentation, “You look at the last three IPL games we have witnessed, they have been amazing. Wrong end of it today, but the guys were fantastic. Rohit played a fantastic knock at the top of the order. Nortje is world-class and that’s what we expect from him, Mustafiz too. Timmy David was on the wrong side of it, so I tried to keep it at stump-height. I think from the last three games, we’ve some positives but we shouldn’t lost wickets in clumps. Axar should bat in the top four the way he is striking the ball. From the last three games we have played, there are a lot of positives.”

Mumbai Indians were able to hold their nerves at the end and the finishing touches were provided by Cameron Green and Tim David after Rohit Sharma and Tilak Varma played crucial knocks.

The MI skipper Rohit Sharma was awarded Player of the Match for scoring 65 runs off 45 balls. Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals will look to turn the tables in the upcoming matches.

The David Warner-led team will next face Royal Challengers Bangalore on Saturday at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.
