Former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri has showered praise on the young duo of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Tilak Varma for their impressive showing in the ongoing season of IPL 2023. Shastri feels both the left-handers are reaping the rewards of playing domestic cricket regularly.
Jaiswal has done a fine job while playing for Mumbai in the domestic tournaments and he has continued his good show in the IPL for Rajasthan Royals.
Jaiswal is currently the second-highest run-getter in IPL 2023 with 428 runs in nine matches. He has scored his runs at an average of 47.56 and a strike rate of 159.70.
On the other hand, Tilak Varma has also done an amazing job for Mumbai Indians in the ongoing season of the IPL. The left-hander has scored 248 runs in eight matches at an average of 41.33 and a strike rate of 152.14.
“Look at all the guys who come from domestic cricket. Within the first six balls they whack one there one there whether his name is Jaiswal or Tilak Verma. All these guys are playing regular domestic cricket,” Shastri said on Star Sports.
Meanwhile, Jaiswal also scored a majestic knock of 124 runs off just 62 balls against Mumbai Indians on Sunday.
“I think I enjoyed all my innings. I was thinking right. My plans were executed and I was hitting the right shots and getting it into the gap. I think every day I go into the nets I feel the same and that’s how I perform,” Jaiswal told the broadcaster after receiving the orange cap from Kumar Sangakkara.
“I work a lot with my coaches and do well for the team. I really need to enjoy this and keep doing the good work. I was not thinking about the 100. I was focused on doing well for the team and had to play the role that I was assigned to. I am glad I did that. That was my game plan.”
Rajasthan Royals will next face defending champions Gujarat Titans at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur on Friday.
