Lucknow Super Giant head coach Justin Langer has said they have got a very settled squad ahead of the IPL 2024 mini-auction. LSG have made it to the playoffs in the last two seasons of the IPL and the team has performed consistently since their entry in the tournament.
LSG released eight players, namely Jaydev Unadkat, Daniel Sams, Manan Vohra, Swapnil Singh, Karan Sharma, Arpit Guleria, Suryansh Shedge, Karun Nair before the IPL 2024 retention deadline last month.
LSG has a purse of INR 13.15 crores remaining and has six slots to fill, with two overseas positions. The franchise had retained players like KL Rahul (c), Ayush Badoni, Deepak Hooda, Ravi Bishnoi, Krunal Pandya, Yudhvir Singh, Prerak Mankad, Yash Thakur, Amit Mishra, Mayank Yadav, Mohsin Khan, Quinton De Kock, Nicholas Pooran, Kyle Mayers, Marcus Stoinis, Naveen Ul Haq, and Mark Wood ahead of the auction.
“We have the smallest purse, LSG, but to me that’s also a really good sign that we’ve got a very settled squad. I like stability. The guys have played with each other in the last couple of years and hopefully we can get a couple of players that will just add to that and make us that little bit stronger,” said Langer in a video released by IPL on X.
The former Australian opener added he is excited to be part of the IPL. This will be the first time when Langer will coach an IPL team and he will look to get the best out of his players.
“I’m incredibly excited to be part of the IPL. It’s nice to be in Dubai. I’ve got nice memories of being in Dubai. It just goes to show that IPL is now global. This is not just Indian domestic cricket, it’s a global league and that’s why everyone wants to be a part of it. I’d have to say, certainly universally, the IPL auction conjures as much excitement as any in the world. If I could describe the IPL auction in one word, it would be ‘massive’,” Langer added.
IPL 2024 mini-auction will be held at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai on Tuesday, December 19.
