Delhi Capitals’ assistant coach Pravin Amre feels Prithvi Shaw enhances their chances of winning if he plays 30 or more balls. Shaw scored a decent knock of 32 runs off 22 balls in the run-chase of 168 against Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow on Friday as DC won by six wickets.
Shaw scored six fours in his knock as he scored at a strike rate of 145.45. The right-hander from Mumbai has been in decent form in IPL 2024, scoring 151 runs in four matches at an average of 37.75 and a strike rate of 157.29.
“As an opener he (Shaw) has got a role to play, winning the powerplay is also critical. As coaching staff, we want him to play at least 30 balls because if he plays 30 balls we have more chance to win,” Amre told reporters after DC defeated Lucknow Super Giants on Friday.
Amre reckons Shaw’s consistent performances will help in the team’s success.
“In 22 balls he got 32 and that was also important because we were chasing and his experienced partner (David) Warner got out and that also allowed Jack to settle down. But he being more consistent is good for him as well for the team also,” Amre added.
Amre also lauded Kuldeep Yadav, who bagged the Player of the Match award for returning with impressive figures of 3-20.
“We are forgetting Kuldeep’s contribution. He bowled a dream ball to dismiss Nicholas Pooran. Axar also bowled well in the middle overs giving away just 25 runs off his 4 overs. We took the control of the game after powerplay and all credit goes to our spin department,” Amre said.
