In-form Sunrisers Hyderabad were stunned by Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Hyderabad on Thursday by 35 runs. RCB posted a par score of 206 runs on the board after electing to bat first.
SRH captain Pat Cummins admitted the aggressive batting approach is not going to work every time. The hosts kept losing wickets at regular intervals and could only manage 171-8 in their 20 overs while chasing 207.
Meanwhile, SRH batters have been in sublime form in the ongoing season, with their openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma giving solid starts to their team. However, it wasn’t to be the case on Thursday and Cummins was not too critical of a one-off day for the batters.
None of the home team’s batters could go past the 40-run mark and could not deliver the goods against RCB.
Pat Cummins said after the loss, “I think it’s our strong suit. It’s not going to work every game. One or two games where it hasn’t gone our way at the start, we still managed to get a good total. Still think this is the way forward for our boys.”
The Australian added, “Not an ideal night. A few over par with the ball and unfortunately lost a few wickets throughout our innings. We were gonna bat first, it seems to be working for us. Before the last few wins, we were thinking that we were a bowl-first team. Didn’t go our way.”
Cummins added in T20 cricket an off-game is always not on the cards and he is going to lose his sleep over it.
SRH skipper concluded, “I speak after wins, Dan (Vettori) speaks after losses. The boys have been doing really well, it’s T20 cricket, you are not going to win every game. Don’t dwell on this too much.”
Sunrisers Hyderabad will next take on Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on Sunday.
