Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Pat Cummins has revealed that he wants his team to make a really aggressive start to the season. Cummins, who bought for a huge amount of INR 20.50 in IPL 2024 auction, was given the captaincy baton by the SRH management as he replaced Aiden Markram.
The Orange Army had finished the previous season as the wooden spooners with only four wins in 14 matches and Cummins would be determined to turn the tables. Cummins has led Australia with aplomb, taking the national team to glory in the ICC Test Championship and the ODI World Cup 2023.
Cummins admitted that the T20 format is hard and it is imperative to get the early winning impetus into the tournament.
Cummins said in a video shared by the franchise, “So, a bit of planning to go and then just wanna get off to a really good start. T20s are hard. Kolkata’s a good team, but I think just wanna see a really aggressive, start to the season.”
The Australian added they have got the good mix of experienced and young players in the team and he is excited to see young players like Abhishek Sharma and Umran Malik
“I think we’ve got a great mix. We’ve got a couple more experienced guys like Bhuvi,” he said. “Obviously Aiden Markram captain last year. But we’ve got some exciting young talent. I’m super excited to see guys like Abhishek, Umran Malik, these kind of guys I’ve only seen a little bit of but super excited, so I think fans should be pretty pumped for the season ahead.”
Cummins added that he works hard with the guys who he doesn’t know too well to get the best out of them as a leader.
“I mean, the plans are you know, I work really closely with the guys that I don’t know too well. Get to know them. Get to know what they need from me out in the middle. And then, you know, work with coaches and what they want to see out of me as well as a player,” he added.
Sunrisers Hyderabad will begin their IPL 2024 campaign against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens, Kolkata on March 23.
