Mumbai Indians batting coach Kieron Pollard has hinted that there will be no rest for Jasprit Bumrah before the T20 World Cup. Mumbai Indians have managed only four wins in 12 matches and their chances of qualifying for the playoff are hanging by a thin thread.
Meanwhile, Bumrah has been in sensational form in IPL 2024, picking up 18 wickets in 12 matches at an average of 16.50 and an economy rate of 6.20. Thus, the gun fast bowler is the leading wicket-taker of the tournament but he hasn’t received enough support from the other end.
Bumrah returned with another impressive figures of 1-23 against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Monday in his team’s seven-wicket win. The ace pacer got the big wicket of SRH opener Abhishek Sharma.
“I certainly haven’t had any discussions about that,” Pollard told media after the game when asked if there are any plans to rest Bumrah from MI’s remaining two matches keeping in mind the upcoming T20 World Cup.
“I don’t think that’s my role and function at this point in time. But let’s see what happens. We are all here to play an entire IPL. Sometimes when we think too far ahead of different things, thinking about World Cups, all these things could affect performances even from before the team was selected,” he further added.
The former MI batter added that the main thing for the franchise is to finish the IPL on a high.
“For us and in our camp, the most important thing is finishing off the IPL, and let’s see what happens after that. When he leaves the IPL and he goes into the Indian team, I think that’s where that concession will take place,” Pollard added.
Mumbai Indians will next take on Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata on Saturday.
